George Lutz, his wife Kathy, and their three children have just moved into a beautiful, and improbably cheap, Dutch colonial mansion nestled in the sleepy coastal town of Amityville, Long Island. However, their dream home is concealing a horrific past and soon each member of the Lutz family is plagued with increasingly strange and violent visions and impulses.
This 2005 horror film from director Andrew Douglas follows a family who move into a striking, suspiciously affordable coastal mansion, only to find their dream home hiding a disturbing history. As the house exerts its grip, family members are beset by escalating visions and violent impulses. Drawing on a notorious haunted-house premise, the film trades in dread, supernatural menace, and mounting paranoia. With its straightforward horror focus and a MagicMovieScore of 6.1, it is a fitting watch for fans of classic haunted-house chillers and stories of domestic spaces turned sinister.
