Joe Moore has a job he loves. He's a thief. His job goes sour when he gets caught on security camera tape. His fence, Bergman, reneges on the money he's owed, and his wife may be betraying him with the fence's young lieutenant. Moore and his partner, Bobby Blane, and their utility man, Pinky Pincus, find themselves broke, betrayed, and blackmailed. Moore is forced to commit his crew to do one last big job.
Written and directed by David Mamet, this 2001 thriller threads action, crime, and drama through the story of a veteran thief whose latest score goes wrong when he is caught on camera. Betrayed by his fence and pressured from every side, he is forced into one final, dangerous job. Sharp, talky, and full of double-crosses, the film trades in cons, shifting loyalties, and the gamesmanship of professionals who never quite trust one another. Its tone is cool and tightly wound. It appeals to viewers who enjoy heist pictures, hard-boiled crime drama, and clever plots built on deception. MagicMovieScore: 6.3.
