Tired of scaring humans every October 31 with the same old bag of tricks, Jack Skellington, the spindly king of Halloween Town, kidnaps Santa Claus and plans to deliver shrunken heads and other ghoulish gifts to children on Christmas morning. But as Christmas approaches, Jack's rag-doll girlfriend, Sally, tries to foil his misguided plans.
Directed by Henry Selick, this 1993 stop-motion classic is a fantasy for the whole family, set in a world where holidays each have their own realm. Bored with the routine of Halloween, the lanky king of Halloween Town stumbles upon Christmas and decides to make the celebration his own, with chaotic and ghoulish results. Inventive, macabre, and surprisingly warm, it blends animation artistry with memorable songs and a heartfelt story about identity and belonging. Spooky yet gentle, it bridges two holidays at once. It enchants fans of animation, dark whimsy, and offbeat family fantasy alike. MagicMovieScore: 7.8.
